With the bandwagon of mindfulness meditation picking up a bit of steam, many of you who are curious in exploring it, have this question at the top of your mind.
On one extreme there has always been stories about people passing away while in a meditative state, more practically there have been few studies sited recently where meditation has been implicated in panic, confusion and depression.
So is it really safe? Generally, if done under the supervision of a qualified teacher in a proper way it is very safe. One known issue is that as you learn to meditate there is more likelihood of past memories of trauma resurface. It is usually not hat difficult to deal with.
