“I was in strong need of stress relief. I found more than I imagined”
Let me invite you to the “Mindfulness” series of Samir Ranpara! Having meditated on and off since 1984, I found this course while searching for a meditation group in Northwest Portland. With my life stressors including relocation, population density double that of my prior residency, naivete about Portland cultures and Oregon areas. I was in strong need of stress relief.
I found more than I imagined. Samir runs a welcoming circle that honors mindfulness meditation with integrity, quiet humor and an open heart.
Hi, my name is Helene. I am an immigrant, a dairy farm-girl, an artist, a prior private practice owner in Boise, Idaho, a 12-step participant, a midlife – underemployed workhorse, and a multi-lingual “lifelong learner”. My employer is a local animal hospital where I provide technical assisting & animal care for their kennels.
Any time I hear someone mention meditation or mindfulness, I highly recommend Mr. Ranpara’s course as a part of their health and wellness plan. He presents “Mindfulness” in a professional and very scientifically solid manner.
Having been an interim director of St. Alphonsus’ Pain Education & Re-Training Program, I found current study outcomes on mindfulness in healthcare to be profoundly empowering and motivating.
His course is sequential, inviting, interactive and experiential for people of all faith and traditions. He gently and humorously models a path of practice which allowed me to explore various mindful approaches and chose those that worked best in my life.
Yes, I have a daily mindfulness meditation practice that provides me with an oasis of inner awareness, resources for decreasing my daily stressors and a circle of humans that choose human “being” versus that popular treadmill of “doing!”.
I am deeply grateful for the guidance and stepping stones that Samir Ranpara has helped me put on my life path.
Please, let this invitation touch your heart and join him!?!*

“I was surprised to see myself go from a stressed-out mess to a pleasant person to be around”
Taking this class was the biggest favor I could have done for myself. I struggle with depression and anxiety, and medication never quite resolved the issue so I turned to meditation.
I was very hesitant to walk into a small group of strangers and make myself vulnerable, but this class was the perfect balance between supportive and individual. It was a casual, safe place–nothing was ever forced and our questions were always answered.
Initially anxious and fidgety during meditation sessions, I committed myself to the process and improved my patience level by practicing at home. I admire Samir’s level of commitment as well, teaching several methods of meditation and making sure I had found the best fit for me.
Half-way through the course, I began to see changes in myself: an improved mood, and a higher level of patience. By the end of the course, I was living more mindfully, eating healthier, and going through my day with a sense of calmness.
I was surprised to see myself go from a stressed-out mess to a pleasant person to be around. I now structure my days around a brief meditation session and balance my expectations of myself. Mindfulness has not only been a positive change for me, but for the ones I love as well. I highly recommend taking Samir’s program.*
“losing my keys is now a thing of the past. I am also better able to deal with situations I previously would have found stressful”
I read a book on mindfulness but I am glad I took the class because the interactive nature and the hands-on practice in class, cleared up some misconceptions for me.
Some of the effects are immediate and some become obvious as I continue practicing mindfulness. I was surprised by how effective the technique, for bringing me back to the present if I found myself distracted, was. Also, losing my keys is now a thing of the past. I am also better able to deal with situations I previously would have found stressful.
The sessions were great: For me, I found the dialogues, where we get to share our observations and get feedback from the instructor extremely beneficial. The in-class meditation practices reinforce my intent.
I would therefore highly recommend this class to anyone.*

“My sister commented to me one day that she could tell by how I sounded that the mindfulness training was helping me”
I would highly recommend the mindfulness program from Samir. Due to some ongoing health issues and anxiety, I needed to find tools and skills to help me handle my situation better. We learned a variety of techniques based on the work of John Kabat Zinn and practiced them in weekly classes.
The instructor, Samir, always followed up promptly with notes from each class and audio recordings to use for our own practice. He has a voice and approach in the guided meditation that is very welcoming and I found the explanations in class on how your mind reacts and the emphasis on awareness to be very beneficial.
I sincerely felt that Samir wanted to share his expertise and for us to see improvements. My sister commented to me one day that she could tell by how I sounded that the mindfulness training was helping me.
I would highly recommend mindfulness training with Samir.*

“My problems have not all magically melted away, but my attitude toward them is much calmer and more centered and my pain is more manageable”
I’m really enjoying the class. Your presentation is different from the original class that I took and I like that, it rounds out and complements what I all ready know. I especially appreciate your patience in answering everyone’s questions and your exceptional ability to present complex ideas clearly and in multiple ways. I am in the right place at the right time and I thank you for this opportunity.
As a fallen-away meditator, I am extremely grateful to have recently had the opportunity to attend the 6-week Mindfulness Meditation program taught by Samir Rampara. I began the class fairly familiar with the basics, wondering if there would be anything really new for me to learn. I was amazed at how much I came away with in such a short time!
Samir’s teaching style is clear, insightful and thorough, very obviously coming from the compassionate heart of someone who “practices what they preach”. Not only did the weekly lessons inspire me to a renewed dedication to a daily practice, they elegantly filled in gaps in my basic understanding of what mindfulness meditation is and why it can be such a beneficial tool in dealing with chronic pain and the stressful ups and downs of our hectic lives.
My problems have not all magically melted away, but my attitude toward them is much calmer and more centered and my pain is more manageable. Additionally, I feel more present to the world around me, more fully able to experience each moment. I would strongly recommend this course to anyone hoping to incorporate more peace and awareness in their daily life.*
“I learned techniques that I can use any time to reduce stress and upset, which is helpful at work and at doctor visits. I spend less time in my head and more time in the present moment”
For many years I have wanted to learn to meditate, but I never found the time or the incentive to do so. A few years ago, my daughter was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and her current treatment requires a weekly blood draw and injection, which is very stressful. When I read a book that discussed the benefits of practicing mindfulness-based meditation, I knew it was time to find a teacher for the two of us.
I found Portland Mindfulness online and contacted Samir to see if my daughter and I could attend his upcoming class. He responded right away and advised that the class format was not appropriate for someone her age. He suggested I attend his first class for free to see if it was a good fit for me, and offered, if I was interested, to meet separately with my daughter and teach her MBSR at a level she could understand and enjoy.
“I began to get some space between my thoughts and get some relief from the race brain. I’m now able to embrace the pending ‘next chapter’ in my life with a sense of excitement rather than loss”
The first of the year, I made a decision to start my meditation practice again after having a lapse of a few years. It was challenging AND I was trying multiple approaches to get back into a regular practice.
When I saw the website for Portland Mindfulness, I immediately signed up. When I started the class, I was struggling in a couple of areas….my health and my ability to continue to do work I love. I was pretty obsessively thinking about how to manage all the details and control the chaos.
Over the course of the classes and the in-home practice, I began to get some space between my thoughts and get some relief from the race brain. I’m now able to embrace the pending “next chapter” in my life with a sense of excitement rather than loss.
My sense is that by practicing mindfulness I’m much better able to embrace life on life’s terms. Samir is a wonderfully compassionate teacher, with a great sense of humor in how he approaches the material. He clearly practices what he teaches. I look forward to continuing to practicing and seeing how life unfolds.*
“I became more aware of the sensations in my body when anxiety was arising, and I was able to mindfully identify those sensations and keep more control over my thoughts rather than letting them run wild”
I enrolled in the class with encouragement from my husband actually. My attempts at meditation in the past have ended with frustration and feeling like I couldn’t quiet my mind enough to meditate successfully.
I knew that I wanted additional tools to help cope with anxiety, and am aware of the research about meditation and changes in the brain, so I decided to find a class that could help focus my efforts a bit more and provide support.
Attending the class was an interesting and inspiring experience. I appreciated not only the support in meditation itself, but theoretical discussion about the brain and how it works at the most rudimentary level.
Even though finding time to practice meditation for 20 minutes daily was quite a challenge for me as a working mom with 2 kids, I was still able to find opportunity to incorporate mindfulness into my life in ways I hadn’t before.
I became more aware of the sensations in my body when anxiety was arising, and I was able to mindfully identify those sensations and keep more control over my thoughts rather than letting them run wild.
I am certainly still in the beginning stages of my practice with a lot of room to grow, but am looking forward to continuing finding increasing opportunities for mindfulness and stillness in my daily life.*
“The most important thing I gained from the class is the very simple idea that meditation is a tool we can use to become more mindful and aware in daily life, which can help reduce suffering, anxiety and other difficult feelings.”
“The simplicity of mindfulness still surprises me”
The only thing that would have prevented me from taking your class would have been my own fears. When I read about your class, I knew it was for me. The cost, the distance, the size of the class etc would have been some”fears” to stop me. I faced my fears, took the class and am glad I did.
There were no real surprises due to my going thru a mindfulness based cognitive therapy program in 2014. Actually, not true. The simplicity of mindfulness still surprises me.
Yes I would highly recommend your class. You are very knowledgeable and a very good teacher. You are non-threatening and have a safe calm way of interacting with your students.*
“after 6 weeks of mindfulness and meditation classes with Samir…. I am a believer! I can say that meditation has positively impacted my life because Samir gave us tools to deal with stress, day-to-day situations”
I have a very “busy” life. Busy is the new buzz word, but for me it really means “having a great deal to do”. Twenty four hours in a day are not enough to keep up with work, business and family life. Therefore, many people suggested that I try out Mindfulness and Meditation. In spite of being in the scientific field, I have always been skeptical of mindfulness and meditation benefits in our life.
However, I am glad to say that after 6 weeks of mindfulness and meditation classes with Samir…. I am a believer! I can say that meditation has positively impacted my life because Samir gave us tools to deal with stress, day-to-day situations, be it work or family, with elegant examples.
He taught us how not to be in auto mode for everything and actually be mindful of things. I learnt how to control my thoughts and be positive and hopeful in life. I still have a lot to learn, but I am on the correct path. I am definitely going to attend his classes in the future and will highly recommend them to everyone who has too much on their plate to handle.*
“Your mindfulness approach is immediately practical, yet full of depth and nuance”
Thanks so much for sharing your experience and expertise with mindfulness practice. I found it both enjoyable and helpful. Your mindfulness approach is immediately practical, yet full of depth and nuance. I’m sure I will be learning more and more about mindfulness (and myself) as I continue to practice.
I have practiced several types of meditation over the years, mostly Taoist practices associated with Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong, and I found that your mindfulness approach blended easily, and perfectly complemented these practices.
I would highly recommend your course for anyone, at any level of experience, who is seeking expert guidance in achieving personal peace and self-awareness.*
“The follow-up emails Samir sent were a good resource and provided a thorough picture of what happened in class. I refer to them often and feel I have a good foundation to continue the work on my own”
The program was extremely useful and also a pleasure to attend. Samir is very knowledgeable and has a gentle, nonjudgmental style. The time in class passed very quickly because it was so interesting and each class had a different focus.
The follow-up emails Samir sent were a good resource and provided a thorough picture of what happened in class. I refer to them often and feel I have a good foundation to continue the work on my own. I highly recommend this program!*
“you can expect wonderful things to start happening in your life — things like opening up your heart, expanding your consciousness, increasing feelings of peace, love, and relaxation, and increased sense of well-being”
I highly recommend taking a Mindfulness Course Program with Samir Ranpara. He is a kind, caring, articulate and deeply knowledgeable teacher who helps his students come to understand mindfulness on many levels and then apply it to daily living.
In a gentle and supportive way, he helps his students to deepen their awareness of being and to begin to develop and then maintain a daily mindfulness meditation practice. Samir approaches the subject and practice of mindfulness from many perspectives: science, psychology, neuropsychology, spirituality and diverse sacred traditions, biology and much more.
He listens to his students and is receptive to questions and open-minded about diverse opinions. He truly desires to help his students release stress, pain, anger, resentment, confusion, and negativity in general — to allow a clearing and open up space for peace, quiet, healing, re-energizing, and creativity.
When you take a Mindfulness Course with Samir, you can expect wonderful things to start happening in your life — things like opening up your heart, expanding your consciousness, increasing feelings of peace, love, and relaxation, and increased sense of well-being and being in tune with your mind-body-spirit connection. What a blessing!*
“But, don’t take my word for it, attend a free session and check it out for yourself”
“I loved the fact that this was without any ‘mumbo-jumbo'”
This has been one of the best meditation classes I’ve taken (and I’ve taken several)
Samir provided logical and scientific explanations of why things worked and their effects. I loved the fact that this was without any “mumbo-jumbo”. He took class notes, mailed them out, and meticulously answered questions. This was simply an outstanding class!*
“I would certainly recommend your class particularly to someone like myself who was completely new to mindfulness”
